Money, Self-Improvement, Mindset
The Reason Why We Remain Poor
Working as a professional in a digital agency makes me think a lot. I know I am still new in this field, but I think learning fast isn’t a sin. Some of you who read this article may consist of different occupations; a student, a lawyer, a copywriter, a doctor, etc. As a student, some of us may think, “I have to graduate as soon as possible so that I can work in a big company.” Some of us professional workers may think, “I have to perform well so that I can get promoted quickly.” These two mindsets then come to one conclusion;
“I have to work hard in order to earn more money.”
There’s nothing wrong with the term “work hard.” My point is in the word “to earn more money.” Some of us are still trapped in the mindset of chasing money. When I first came to this professional field, I often thought it would be nice to have a job that aligns with my hobby (writing). Just do what I like, and then get paid at the end of the month. Fulfilling my belly with delicious meat, buying coffee and cigars with my money, and so on. It is an easy 9 to 5 job; life is good. However, my mindset started to change recently.
As professional workers in Indonesia, we may get paid around $300 per month (Rp4.7 million). That’s the GDP of Jakarta, and I get paid around that number. I’m not saying it is less or excess. However, once upon a time, when I got back to my apartment from my office, there was Aston Martin Vantage worth $320,000 (Rp5 billion) passed beside my motorcycle. Then, I asked myself, “what the fuck is going on?” I mean, even if I worked as a professional worker for my entire life with my current wages, I still couldn’t afford that hot bitch. Okay, let’s say I got promoted, and my wages increased from $300 (Rp4.7 million) to $1,300 (Rp20 million). Man, I still need 20 fucking years to get that stuff. I have thought there must be something I still don’t know about this world. From that moment, my mindset is quite shifting.
“We can’t be wealthy if our mindset is still chasing the money.”
If you are fishing using your favorite meal, the fish will never come to you. Instead, if you are fishing using fish’s favorite meal, they will come to you. Same case with success. All we need to realize is that success is not entirely about us, but it is about the market. If you give the market what they like, the money will come to you by itself.
I’m wondering if I keep chasing money by being a professional worker, which I like (writers), then I’ll never be wealthy. I point out that our favorite meals are all the things that we like, could, or become an expert in some field and do 9–5 jobs. Maybe you could gain a few bugs, but how much time do you need to buy a Bugatti from it?
So, what’s the solution? As simple as getting out of our comfort zone. The meaning of changing our mindset from chasing money to making money chase us is like unlocking the inhuman superpower; Magneto. To become a money magnet, we must get out of our comfort zone by learning new skills, attending a webinar, filtering our environment, starting our business, and focusing. I know it’s a simple tip, but it requires courage and fortitude to leave our comfort zone.
“If it doesn’t challenge you, it doesn’t change you.” — Unknown
I don’t prohibit you from doing a 9–5 job. I am still doing it. But, what I prohibit you is that you do a 9–5 job for your entire life. Realizing that the meaning of this world always occurs, money means you are one step ahead. Acknowledge that fish don’t like our meals (money analogy) means you are two steps ahead. Succeeding and daring to get out of your comfort zone means you are one step closer to becoming a magneto. Remember, life only give you one shot. You bury your potential if you only waste your time doing things you like and being in your comfort zone, such as watching movies, hanging out with friends, and scrolling your social media all day long. Tick tock, my friends…
