“It hurts but…”

Lack of sleep maybe the right sentence to open this copy. I promise to myself to sleep under 23.00 WIB but it ain’t work. I feel like an owl. It’s getting night and my mind keeps imaginating and thinking about anything. It’s like an explosion where I get my spirit when it’s night. I would like to apologize to my body that I promise him to sleep early but fuck, let’s write.

Actually, I don’t have any idea what I’m gonna write. I don’t have any plan to write on this day because I had a traffic on my job. It’s quite a lot of work , but writing is the best escape, aye?

There’s a video on TikTok. Of course it came from my beloved country, Indonesia. Someone is getting scolded because of his occupation. He is an online driver. He came to visit his girlfriend, bringing a bunch of food in hope to make his girlfriend’s parents smile. When he got to his girlfriend’s house, what he expected was far off the mark. Her mother doesn’t accept him because of his occupation. She said “you are shameless. Who do you think you are? You’re just an online driver. Don’t dream to marry my daughter. My daughter is beautiful, and who the fuck are you? You are just an online taxi driver whose income is not much”.

I wouldn’t that strong if I was him. I know myself. The damage was so critical and strike towards his heart. I admit that must be hurt, but…

I remember when my lecturer taught me about life orientation. Of the many orientations in life, there was a realist and an idealist. In short, realism is an understanding which in action, way of thinking and so on always holds on to reality. While idealism is an understanding of something that is considered to be true. In my opinion, what is truly realistic at this time is money, and what is truly idealistic is our perspective about truth. Money, things, cars, education, house, cloths, those things are realistic. Meanwhile beliefs, sense, appetite, loves, loyalty, sincerity, those things are idealistic. Based on these groupings, I categorize that the mother’s orientation is realist and the drivers are idealistic.

Her mother certainly wants the best for her daughter, whom she has raised since birth. Countless how much money she has spent to support her daughter. So of course, she wants the best for her daughter. She want her daughter to sleep under the cool air conditioner, in a warm bed, driving a nice Bugatti, wearing a nice diamond, living her best life where all of her needs are fulfill. While a driver offering a love, sincerity, compassion, loyalty and so on. From this, there are two different life orientations between the mother and the driver.

Honestly, I was angry after seeing the video on how the mother treated the driver. It was so rude and she was cross her line I think. However, after thinking about it deeply, I know there’s a lot of meaning. Meaning can’t be objective. Our truth must be different from others. He surely want the best for his girlfriend, but this ‘best’ ain’t no fucking objective. His ‘best’ could be opposite with her mother’s ‘best’. He can’t force what kind of life orientation that the mother should adopt, vice versa. This is a harsh reality, but at the same time it is a truth that exists in our system.

So, yeah. It hurts, but this is our beloved reality. Be strong to the driver, sometimes it is the slap of reality that shapes us to be ten times better than we were before.
